Online defamation by ‘cyber-stalkers’ has become increasingly more common in the last five years. Whether it’s through social media such as Facebook or Twitter, business review sites such as Yelp, or sites whose sole purpose is providing a forum to anonymously make unsubstantiated claims against a person or a business with the goal of destroying the victim’s online reputation. Defamatory content can come from any number of sources including: former spouses, former or current employees, business competitors, etc.
